Back in action!
Legs, you remember this crazy thing called running right?
Sure you do!
They didn’t remember what hills were, that’s for sure! Those things at the preserve were a beating to the point of there was some walking in between. I got the last 2.45 miles in today and I could not be happier with my Sole Sister beside me the whole way.
In 2012 I started doing the C25K program late in the year. 2013 I was to do 12 races a year. 2014 was the year of 24 races and one very insane half marathon. It was insane because I didn’t train right (too hard, too fast) and I picked the hottest half in the area to do.
I completed it and lived to tell the tale but after that experience running lost its motivation.
2015 I didn’t do much of anything. A few races here or there with the gang but my heart wasn’t in it. I was stressed out at work and that was spilling out into my home life causing a depression.
I changed jobs at my company and enjoying a lower stress environment. It’s not my dream job but it will help me get to my dream job.
Leaving that toxic environment made my life go 180 degrees. My energy came back. I slept better. I started playing with my art again. I wanted to restart running.
I think that part is what made the best positive change. Joining the Hogwarts Running Club was the second because it gave me small mini running goals to complete their virtual races. That is what helped me get back into the training mode.
This race: The Umbridge 13K was 8.08 miles. I registered on April 1st and started training the next day.
April 2nd: 2.5 miles
April 5th: 1.08 miles
April 6th: 2.5 miles
April 9th: 3.17 miles
In just over a week I had accomplished 9.25 miles.
What was even better is that this broke my mentality that anything less than a 5K is a waste of time. 5Ks (3.10 miles) will typically take me just under an hour. So you can imagine trying to block an hour of time after a busy work day or errand/hockey packed weekend.
These mini runs are just perfect. I even woke up today thinking about if my legs could handle another run but as sore as they are…It will be a yoga and a walk day.
Monday will probably been another running day 🙂
