So I found a new iPhone app that uses the original Rider-Waite deck. This is the deck that Jess Carlson recommends for anyone who wants to learn the tarot. I actually am expecting this deck and a book to be delivered from Amazon today so I can begin studying the Tarot and be a better reader.
Today’s card is the King of Cups.
The Cups suit deals with the emotional level of consciousness and are associated with love, feelings, relationships and connections.
Cups are about displays of emotion, expression of feelings and the role of emotions in relation to others.
The Cups Tarot cards indicate that you are thinking with your heart rather than your head, and thus reflect your spontaneous responses and your habitual reactions to situations.
The King of Cups is no different. He sits on his throne calmly in the midst of rough seas wearing a fish amulet. The fish is the symbol of spirit and creativity and represents the balance of the unconscious with the conscious. Behind him on his right, another fish jumps from the ocean, and, on his left, a ship sails steadily in the turbulent waves.
These images are a sign that the unconscious has been allowed to break through and has been recognized by the King, but he keeps it in check so it does not overwhelm him. The King of Cups does not repress his emotions and unconscious impulses but has learned to accept and deal with them in a balanced manner.
What this card is asking of us today is to focus on our reactions to turbulence in our lives. Do we have balance? Are we repressing emotions when others begin pushing out buttons? Do you know your triggers?
Also, are you listening to what your unconscious/gut? Are you too busy with the material world to realize some red flags are waving in front of you?
Reflect on these questions and see what you discover about yourself and your reactions vs response.
In love and light,
